SLOW LIVING RETREAT PART TWO: GATHER AND TEND

A couple of weeks ago on a foggy autumn morning Emma and I made our way deep into the Sussex countryside with a basket full of pumpkins and a boot full of the most beautiful flowers for our first slow living day retreat, Gather and Tend. Time to slow down and sink into your day, surrounded by nature. With space to follow your creativity and a chance to connect and restore; through yoga, meditation a mindful walk-shop, floral arranging and still live vignette creation. It’s one of my favourite things to be able to gather round with a lovely bunch of folk and sit and eat glorious food in a beautiful setting – it feels like a really special way to mark an occasion.

When Emma and I spoke about organising the Gather and Tend retreat at Tilton House, we were both sure we wanted to be able to eat outside in the beautiful courtyard. We were so lucky with the weather and it was a real treat to be able to dine outdoors at the beginning of October. SLOW LIVING RETREAT PART ONE: GATHER AND TEND

A couple of weeks ago on a foggy autumn morning Emma from A Quiet Style and I made our way deep into the Sussex countryside with a basket full of pumpkins and a boot full of the most beautiful flowers for our first ever slow living day retreat, Gather and Tend.

On our arrival at Tilton House we crunched our way across the gravel to be met by lit candles and the steam from a freshly boiled kettle.

All was quiet… all was calm…   we gave ourselves time to drink in our beautiful surroundings and made some herbal tea whilst we set up for the day ahead.

ABSENT

Creating is where a big part of my light comes from and is fundamental to my well being, and living a wholehearted life. It is as necessary for me to create and express as it is for me to breath in and out.  The very wise Brene Brown says “Unused creativity is not benign. It metastasizes. It turns into grief, rage, judgement, sorrow, shame.” Creativity is an energy, a life force, it needs to feed into something - if it goes unused it doesn't just evaporate. If we're not going to allow it to flow into creation of some kind then it makes sense that it will fester and manifest in some other form. More on GeoffreyandGrace.com

I have been sitting at my computer for over 30 minutes now, typing without really saying very much. It’s like a muscle gone un-stretched. It feels a little weird and wobbly to be writing here but, boy have I missed it.

Actually, May and June were full of typing with the freelance writing work I’ve been doing (super thankful about all of that and I’ll let you know when the pieces are out) and of course busy publishing The Slow Living Retreat – which was great fun. Connecting with you all on here feels very different though. And now that I get started, it feels as though there is lots to say, like it has all been simmering away under the surface waiting for the opportunity to be released. Too much for one blog post that’s for sure.
