Monthly Voice February & March

The Monthly Voice features some of our favourite new lifestyle brands, reading that's good for the soul and a wonderful organic and 100% natural lipstick which converted this non-lipstick wearer to have a 'nude' obsession.

Hello all, it’s been a little while since the last Monthly Voice, as February was a shorter month and so full of lovely things, posting a Monthly Voice for February just didn’t happen. So today I am combining the last two months, it’s a post brimming with wonderful recommendations. Here’s what we got up to, some things we have discovered, and some things we are loving… Enjoy!

February

February started at such a speed, with Bailey turning five, and a few work deadlines. I couldn’t wait till half term arrived with its slower pace, my birthday, and our wonderful weekend at The Welsh House – you can read more about that here.

We are loving these wooden cameras from Fanny Alexander. Bailey loves having something to pretend to snap away on, plus it has its own strap and comes in a bag. Little bags are a big thing in our house.

It’s amazing what she has picked up just from listening to me talk as I take photos of her. She knows to think about the light, and she also does a funny impersonation of me getting annoyed as my card gets full at a crucial moment. A good reminder for me to breathe that frustration out next time, otherwise she too will start reacting with the same disgruntled manner – they’re always watching and learning from us, even in ways we don’t realise.

We had a morning that was mostly filled with twirling and making pasta necklaces. Luckily, Bailey had this super soft bedding to land on (pictured below). We discovered a new French company, based in Paris, that make wonderful children’s bed linen; La Langerie. I am not a big pink fan myself, but Bailey is definitely entering a pink phase so I thought I’d indulge her with this rose coloured duvet – needless to say she loves it.

February also saw the latest issue of Lionheart published, and I was delighted to write and photograph a feature for it. You can read more about that here.

March

March was mostly filled with Kitchen renovations, but there were some lovely treats too…

I got to see Laura Marling live, which was simply magical. Really captivating and the stage was covered in greenery.  I am loving the songs on her new album ‘Semper Femina‘.

I put together the Travel, and Mind & Body news stories. You can see a little excerpt of issue 3 here and buy your copy here.

The month started with a lovely evening with Toast. I was invited to see a selection of their new Spring Summer 17 collection and try my hand at Indigo dyeing. Indigo dyeing is a core part of this Toast collection, as it has been for the last few years, so it was really lovely to learn more about the process. This also meant I got to meet one of my favourite people for an early dinner, Jeska from Lobster and Swan.

It informs all the clothes shopping I do, which is really very little. I am looking to buy staple pieces that can serve throughout all seasons (obvoisuly that’s not possible with everything). This cashmere scarf from the selection of Nihao Planet scarves will be great throughout the year. It is wonderfully soft, and I am actually wearing it at home most days whilst I work. It’s really comforting to have something that soft around your face. Plus since we are in that weird Springtime weather where it’s still pretty cold, the extra layer is a good alternative to putting the heating on.

March has seen me reading Thich Nhat Hanh ‘How to Relax’ and Voices Rising which is a collection of essays and poetry to inspire your inner voice complied by Sas Petherick. You can read her contribution – which I loved – and get your free download here.

In case you missed it there is an interview with me over on The Linen Works blog about Slow Living which you can read here.

Lipstick is something I have never got on with though. I am mindful about what I put on my face, and up until last month the only things that made it on to my lips were vaseline and a natural lip balm. Any lipsticks I tried, I just didn’t like the colour or how they felt on my lips. Well, the lovely folk at Green People asked if they could send me their new lipstick to try. It’s a perfect nude colour of ‘Damsak Rose’ and looks really pretty on. Plus, it’s 100% natural and organic, and feels wonderful on my skin.

To celebrate 20 years of organic beauty, they are offering a 15% discount on their new velvet matte lipstick. Simply enter the code ‘NUDEOBSESSION’ and the code is valid till April 30th 2017.

Here’s to a blooming April.
