Well, if you can believe it, we find ourselves at the end of another month, so here I am with the ‘monthly voice december’. As well as being the end of the month, of course it’s the end of the year too. Hope you have all had a chance to take some down-time over the festive period and are feeling ready for the new year ahead. I will be back with my reflection on 2015 soon, but for now here’s what we’ve been up to, and the things I have been loving during December.
I spent a lovely morning perusing the new Toast Spring Summer 2016 collection at the Toast press day. There are so many beautiful pieces in the up coming collection and a favourite was this jumpsuit.
December was all about bringing greenery into the house and making homemade decorations. I love the smell of eucalyptus, and it has gradually dried throughout the month, but has kept its fantastic smell, and still looks that pretty shade of pale green.
The three of us made cranberry garlands to hang on the tree along with some handmade ornaments. We also popped our own corn – which was brilliant fun, and tasted so so good. I could quickly get used to a bowl of buttery popcorn always sitting around on the table.
There was a lot of candle lighting in our house during December (and there probably will be in January too). Something I have never done though, is made my own candles. I would really like to give it a go sometime, and I just loved the Handmade Holiday: Bayberry Candles DIY recipe that Kaity shared over on Fair Isle.
So in love with my new to me, but actually vintage, top. An early christmas present… I actually gasped, out loud – not a metaphorical gasp that I am adding in here for descriptive purposes – but an audible gasp, that all the other shoppers in the store could here. I was rummaging in one of my favourite vintage shops in Brighton, Wolf and Gypsy Vintage, when I moved some coat-hangers to reveal this beauty. Needless to say I have been wearing it lots.
Loved reading this article on no-frills walking by Marisa Bate from The Pool, here’s a little extract.
“But after a few minutes a rhythm begins. One foot in front of the other, arms swing and my breathing steadies. It’s hypnotic and meditative. When I hit my stride my head clears. Like wiping a white board clean, from corner to corner.”
So that’s it for the monthly voice december, all that’s left for me to do is wish you all the happiest of new years.
Here’s to a 2016 full of love and light.
