MONTHLY VOICE: APRIL

Here is the Monthly Voice for April; what we’ve been up to and some things we are really loving at the moment. Plus why I am so tired, and what I am doing about it...

Well, I don’t know about you but April seemed to pass by pretty quickly in our house. And, so I find myself here again writing the Monthly Voice. Last month saw our kitchen renovations get under way, there was all the fun of the Easter holidays, and I was also busy with some writing work, and putting together The Slow Living Retreat  – which I am hoping will be finished by the end of May.

I actually only managed to post here twice throughout the whole month, and I feel like I have had my head down a bit and been really trying to focus on specific things. Even with the Easter Holidays, and less blogging, I am craving rest, rest, rest at the moment so I am trying to honour that and really listen to my body. As we all know, we are all pretty good at putting pressure on ourselves, so that is easier said than done.

We’ve been doing work gradually on our house for a while, and in fact in our previous home we gutted the kitchen and bathroom at the same time. Doing DIY isn’t a new experience for us but I had forgotten how disruptive it can be, and how tiring, especially when you’re tackling the kitchen. If you’ve been following along on Instagram stories you will know that we have been doing lots of the work ourselves. It’s an opportunity to get really creative – which has been fun, plus we get to do exactly what we want with the space. All the really messy stuff is done now, but I have run out of steam a bit. The kitchen renovation (catch up here) is definitely partly responsible for my weary state. I just need to find a little bit of energy for the last few things, then I want to sort our breakfast room out which joins onto the kitchen and feels like part of the same space really. Who wants to come help me paint?

Of course our month involved some blossom, how could it not! Here, on the south coast in England  April is the month where the Magnolia trees spring into life. They light up the streets for a couple of glorious weeks then the fragile flowers fade and fall. We have also had our fill of cherry blossom, which has been making me smile on a daily basis.

I was thrilled that Gabrielle Treanor asked me to be part of her ‘Live Your Best Life’ series, and you can read the full interview here.

I listened to a great The Minimalist Podcast about Media _ it’s number 71 if you are looking to go back and listen again. Since I have been felling so tired, I have been thinking a lot lately about my use of social networks and how much I use my phone, so it was really interesting to listen to Joshua and Ryan’s thoughts on the subject.

The new Nellie Quats collection is out, if you are after beautifully made and timeless pieces for your little one then have a look at their spring summer collection here. Both the skirt and top pictured below are from the collection.

Bailey and I have been working our way through the Beatrix Potter Collection at bedtime. I found the whole set of books in a charity shop when Bailey was about one, and since then they have sat on her shelf waiting to be read. We have been picking one a night, or with some of the longer books, just reading a couple of chapters. They were read to me when I was little, so it’s wonderful to see Bailey enjoy them too.

Here’s hoping your May will be calm and restful… I know that’s what I could do with 🙂
