Utility is a fantastic little store, situated in the heart of Brighton. It sells ‘no-nonsense household goods’ made by Utility themselves, and by other independent manufacturers. If you are not Sussex based, do not fear as they also have an online shop. Here are some pictures I took on a recent visit.
The name of the shop is a bit of a clue, as everything they sell has a good utilitarian function – where things are designed to be useful and practical, rather than attractive. I would argue though that all the bits and pieces in Utility are very attractive too, and on top of that, they actually all have a very specific lovely style to them.
On my last visit I bought some little enamel cups for Bailey, a biscuit jar with a fantastic orange lid, and the nicest wooden toilet brush and enamel holder I ever did see.
I could quite happily stock out my whole kitchen and larder with the selection of crockery, cutlery, storage jars and enamel ware that they sell.
Do pop over and have a look at their site. I’m sure you will find something you very much want, which will also turn out to be something you very much need. Isn’t that’s the best kind of shopping?
