succulent love – a green gift

Corner of my home on the Geoffrey & Grace blog

I mentioned in my last Styling the Seasons that I wanted to get more house plants for our home. It’s a bit of a new area for me, I’m ok with growing things in the garden, but plants for inside the house I find a bit more of a challenge. I thought some help and inspiration might be in order, and you can imagine my delight when I came across the lovely Urban Jungle Bloggers, who’s mission is to share plant shaped ideas by the bucket load. Stemming from their love of plants and interiors, Igor Josifiovic of  Happy Interior Blog and Judith de Graaff of JOELIX.com, wanted to gather together an online community of plant lovers and folk who wish to be a little green fingered.

I thought it was the perfect thing to help me with my burgeoning house plant hobby, so this month I am joining in. They choose a different theme every month and May’s topic is green gift giving.

Just in case the pictures haven’t given it away, I have become a bit hooked on Succulents! I know they are the plant of the moment, which would normally mean I would avoid them, but I have also heard they are easy to look after – perfect for a beginner like me. Plus there is no denying how beautiful they are, I love how architectural they can be, and am particularly fond of the string of pearls plant.

My green gift for my friend is this tiny little succulent that I planted up in this little terracotta pot. I have to say that I was a bit cheeky first and took some leaves to propagate, in the hopes that they will grow into new baby plants. Nothing like jumping in at the deep end – new to house plants and I am having ago at propagating my own. If you fancy having a try there is a fantastic blog about succulents, Needles + Leaves and they have a great ‘how to propagate post’. They made it look very simple, which is why I think it might be within my capabilities. Conveniently I will then have lots more green gifts to give to my nearest and dearest too… perfect.

  • Love this idea. I’ve got a few succulents around my house. Especially a money plant. Apparently if they are doing well, then so will your bank balance! But (again apparently) you have to be gifted a money plant for it to work! X

Thanks Georgie 🙂 That’s interesting about the money plant…didn’t know that. We could gift one to each other and hope the money rolls in 😉

  • Beautiful photos and a lovely idea, Melanie. And do I love all your planters and ceramics…oh my!!!

Thanks Igor, let’s hope I can keep them all alive 😉

  • I must check Urban Jungle Bloggers out – I’ve been thinking recently that what our living room needs is some plants! We’ve never had space before, and I’m clueless! I love Echeverias too, even if they are on trend 🙂

Yes do have a look Zoe, there is such great inspiration out there. I have a ‘plants for the home’ board on Pinterest and have found that helpful as well 🙂
