corner of my home

I thought it was time for a little house update, plus a few pictures of a corner of my home that has recently been spruced.

Even though we have only been in our new house four short months, I feel more relaxed and at home here then I ever did in our previous house. This is somewhat to do with how contented I feel here, and partly because we would never have to move again if we didn’t want to. We can’t outgrow this house in terms of the demands of our family, and knowing that this home has that longevity makes me feel very settled.

There is lots that needs doing to the house but I am surprised at how relaxed I feel about all the work, and that so far I haven’t been desperate to do anything at all (apart from rip the bathroom carpet up). To be honest I found the whole process of buying and selling so stressful, I am just glad to be here, even if it doesn’t look the way I would ideally like. It also makes sense to live in a house for a bit before doing any work. Having lived here for four months I think our list of priorities has altered.

We are making progress though, and we finally found a ‘man cupboard’ as I’ve been affectionately calling it, but I think the proper term is ‘tall boy’. I’ve been looking since Christmas, so it took me a while to find a good one at the right price. This is made from walnut wood and I love the pattern and swirl there is in the grain, it’s just lovely. Thanks to this beauty our bedroom is now a little tidier, as the husband has somewhere to hang his clothes. Next we just need to find a wardrobe, so I have somewhere to hang mine. Till then there will continue to be a pile of clothes on my bedroom floor… hope that secret is safe with you.

  • Your tallboy is lovely! We still haven’t finished certain things on our house – we’ve been here nearly 9 years and are thinking of maybe moving on!

Thanks Sharon, was really pleased when I found it. Fingers crossed we find a wardrobe soon x

  • It’s looking lovely Melanie – so pleased to hear you have settled in so well. I very much feel the same about our new place, in that it’s somewhere for the longterm and it’s a lovely feeling. I knew our last house was only short term and there was so much we wanted to do but which wasn’t worth it. Now we can, slowly. Everywhere needs painting, but I can’t face it for a while – after all the stress and sorting out I just want to enjoy life and get out and about. Here’s to many happy years in our new homes 🙂
